HARLECH CASTLE CONTINGENT.
ENTHUSIASTIC EECEPTION IN SYDNEY.
SYDNEY, December 6.
Despite the threatening weather the railway station and main thoroughfares were densely throprjed to welcome the returning soldiers. The aitmioß.t enthusiasm prevailed along the line of march, but the order of procession was not interfered with. The New Zealandors were warmly ovationed at various points. The men look exceedingly well, and it is hard to believe they have experienced all the hardships of war for nearly la months. The men are glad to be back again, and Hughes, speaking to a Press Association representative said, on behalf of himself and many comrades, that the man who says he isn't glad, shows that the truth is not in him. All highly praise the kindness shown them in the various cities in Australia. The men are desirous of returning by the Moamt on Saturday, if arrangements can be made. The troops were' officially welcomed, and entertained at dinner at the barracks. Eulogistic speeches on their good work during the campaign were delivered by Ministers and the Commandant. Sir W. Lyne said they had done more than the most sanguine expected, and had proved themselves good and resourceful soldiers. They would hear no- more now about being featherbed soldiers. Thanks in no small degree to them and their comrades, the name ■of Australia would stand much higher on the plane of the minds of the Empire and the world. Steps would be taken to see that the relatives of the'fallen were not neglected. The New Zealanders enlivened the proceedings with their war-cry.
