The postponement of the ThamesOhinemuri football match, which was to "have come off on Saturday, has raised a storm amongst the supporters of the game, who contend that the local Union has been run purely as a branch of the Auckland Hug by Union, add that the large body of Thames ban-ackers are ignored by the Auckland authorities. Instead of getting through three rounds of the senior contest for championship honours the second round has been left unfinished, and the competition abandoned for the season. Those players who have not the good fortune to get a place in the Auckland provincial team complain with reason that with only half a season to practice they have no chance of improving their game, and many are talking of leaving the Thames for some place where they can play football under more favourable conditions.
At the weekly sale at the Parawai yards yesterday very good prices were realised. Prime steers fetched £8 2s 6d to £9 each; smaller steel's, £G 15s to £7 17s 6d. Under sub-section 1 of section 3 o:I: the Government Loans to Local Bodies Amendment Act, the Thames County Council will save £62 per annum on the present rate of interest, or £80G upon the residuary currency of the loan. The Coldnial Treasurer is to be, communicated with to ask if he will consent to accept, thirteen years as the period of currency, to enable the Council to proceed under one special order i n-stead of three. The Under-Secretary of the. Lands and Survey Department has advised the Council that the Government in preparing the estimates will consider the proposed Thames River, ferry at Turua.
