MORMONISM.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—Your very irate correspondent who, writes under the pseudonym of "Antihumbug" has worked himself into a perfect frenzy of rhapsodical nonsense ani blunder. He speaks of "Brigham Young trekking in vain to Mexico to uphold' polygamy," ignorant or the fact that Brigham Young never went to Mexico; and he also appears to be ignorant of another fact, viz., thai polygamy is even more severely prohibited in Mexico than in the United States. This despiser of humbug- writes upon a subject concerning which his information is of that particular kind that it has led him into the quagmire of absurdity, probably through taking for granted that everything contained in the "Encyclopaedia Americana"; con-: sists of perfect truth.' . . ;.,•«,

Some time ago there appeared in "Harper's Magazine" an item to the effect that Mormonism is worth knowing more about than most people know, and that "an American Church With 250,000. mem* bers is worth some study.1' If your correspondent will take this advice of "Har^ per's" to heart he may probably in time discover that there is more in MormonisnV than is dreamt of- in his philosophy. Meanwhile permit me to assure him that polygamy and sensuality have not always been considered inseparable companions in proof of which I would refer him to.the works of Lord Bolingbroke, Bishop. Burnet, Milton, Guinglius, Bach, Grotiug^ Luther, Josephus, etc., etc. Those whoss minds revel in sensuality are not the'last to'ascribe it to others.—l am, etc.,. :*
