WARDEN'S COURT.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

THAMES, yesterday

At the Warden's Court yesterday afternoon a liirge number of water rights granted durjng the late boom were deblared forfeited for non-com-pliance with regulations, costs ll!/ being allowed in each case. During the hearing of 11. S. Martin's application for protection for the Gloucester ■Extended claim, the Warden (Mr R. S. Bush) read the following letter: "Exchange, Auckland, 27th August, 1000 —I take the. liberty of enclosing advertisement re floating Gloucester claim into a company, for the purpose of acquainting you with what is being done, and in these dull times, with .the difficulties attending any. flotation of a company, and the longer time it will take in such depression than in better times. With reference to the Gloucester Extended 1 am credibly informed the gTOund is of no value outside the Gloucester claim, as it can only be worked from the lattei\ I am nbt therefore anxious about, it, although for its future value should like to see it retained by Mr Martin, when, after the Gloucester is floated, it Avould take the Gloucester Extended in hand. In the meantime, in the hope that the Gloucester will soon be floated, and Martin be undisturbed in the Gloucester. Extended area,—l am, yours truly (Signed)) 11. McDonald Scott*" The Warden said he considered it a piece of impertinence for the writer to send him such a letter, and if any more of -that kind were sent, they would go back very quickly. Mr Clendon.who appeared for Mr Martin, said the letter was sent unknown to him. -He did not know why Mr Scott should write to the Warden. In the course of his remarks re protection for mining claims, the Warden said he would like no'one to be allowed to have any interest in a claim unless the name was on the register. He hoped to see. the Act amended in that "direction. '"
