WAIHI.

WAIHI, Friday.

A stirring military service of song entitled "The Roll Call" was held in the Zlon Primitive Methodist Church last evening. The building was packed. The choir, which consisted of thirty voices, under the baton of Mr R. Scobie, rendered the musical parts in a very efficient manner. The Rev. J. Feather'ston read the descriptive readings very pleasingly. Mr T. Snow presided at the organ, the following orchestra ably assisting to make the rendition of the various selections a success:—Messrs A, X. Ross and MeMinn (first violins), Bear (cornet), J. Dunstan (tenor horn), J. George (bass). The vocal sClos -were well rendered by the following* ladies :4-, Mrs Lumn, Misses Chiirward, New, L. New and Snow. The service throughout reflected great credit on those who were instrumental in arranging tho piece, and also on the several performers. The Waihi Burns Club held their usual fortnightly dance in Lawless' Hall oh Wednesday evening last. This society is going ahead by leaps and bounds, and the number of people who attend these gatherings speak we'll for the capability of the management. Mr Scott, the Chtb's instructor, conducted the proceedings, and Messrs MeMinn (violin), Leary (piano) supplied the music. Mr MeDermott, who was so seriously Injured by falling down one of the Waihi Company's roasting kilns some time ago, is now able to get about slowly on crutches. It is to bo hoped that at the public meeting to be held shortly the scheme, as drawn up by the respective committees,, regarding the residence site titles, will' be thoroughly discussed so as to guarantee the subsequent change which must sooner or later come to pass. Colonel Estill and Adjutant Dutton, of the Salvation Army, are conducting meetings here. This month is fraught with meetings and entertainments of every description. There are now no less than thirteen functions of these sort on the tapis, without considering tlie many which are bound to be held in the meantime. A building is about to be commenced by the Arm of W. McWatters. A new store is to be erected on the site of the old one, which will be occupied by Cullen Bros., while McWatters' present business will be transferred into his new Spacious building just completed. The roads and footpaths of the township are in a much better condition than a few months back; the township itself is spreading actively, 'and, with the expected progress of the mining industry, together with the railway and borough prospects looming ahead, Waihi bids well

to become a most prosperous pla.ee in the ■■oar future.
