GIRLS' KORERO CLUB.

The annual "Olia Podrida" of the. Girls' -torero Club in connection With the Auckland University Collage was held at the

College on Friday. Miss Shrewsbury; presided, and there was a large attendance of friends. After the original papers —humorous and otherwise—had been read, a vote was taken as to their merits, and resulted in two papers being voteequal for first place—"Woman"- and "Tuhakarama's Dilemma," the latter oeing by Miss Priestley. A paper by Miss Kean« entitled "Impressions of an Excursion, ••- camo next.

A Well attended meeting of head teachers of the public schools was held on Saturday at Wellesley-street. school. Mr T. U. Wells presided. The meeting was called to consider the instructions to head teachers lately issued by the Chief Inspector. The meeting passed a resolution to ask the Board of Education whether these instructions were to form part of the official regulations of the Board. The instructions, as issued, were also discussed seriatim, but as only half were got through, the meeting adjourned until Saturday.

The Birkenhead Christian Endeavour. Society held its half yearly meeting on Friday evening, when new officers and committees for the ensuing term were elected. Mr Fred Souster presided. It was decided to hold the half annual social a.t the Gladstone Hall next Friday even-* ins, admission to be by ticket only. _ On Wednesday evening last the Khaki. Entertainment Company appeared at St.Luke's Hall, Mt. Albert, where a most successful rendering of their war programme was held. The company appear at Taupaki and Henderson on Thursday and Friday next, a dance being held in each place at the conclusion of the entertainment. There was a fair attendance at the Sailors' Mission Hall concert on Saturday evening. Mr Bull occupied the chair, and the Christian Standard Band of Hope Workers provided the following programme: Piano selection. Mrs Buddie; song, Miss Welch; recitation, Mr Allen; autoharp selection, the Misses Morton; recitation, Miss Carnaham song, Miss Welch; recitation, Miss Morton; humorous reading, Mr Bull; piano solo, Mrs Buddle. _.._
