Maratoto.—The Payrock lode in the stopes above No. 3 level measures 3 feet in thickness, and gives an average assay value of £2 18/ "per ton. In the Maratoto section the reef averages 2 feet, and the assay value is at the rate of £2 11/ per ton. At the mill the cyanide vats have been filled, each containing about SO tons. Mr MeCombie reports that so far as he can judge by the assay value of the first tailings the cyanide extraction will realise his expectations, also that the precipitation is all that can be desired.

Progress Castle .Rock.—The quartz coming to hand looks very promising, and from its appearance good results should be met With. In the stop;: south oi Xo. 1 winze the leader appears to be improvingl. Strong colours of gold wwi* seen when "stripping the stone.
