THE THIRD CONTINGENT.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday
A letter has been received from Captain Ftimis, of the s.s. Knight Templar, stating that the steamer reached Albany after a passage of 11 days IS hours, in which a good deal of bad I weather was experienced. The horse, iwhich was lost had to be destroyed, I because it went mad. The members of the contingent are, the captain says, a very jolly lot of fellows, aud -after they recovered from their sea sickness, got on very well. After leaving Lyttelton, it was discovered that several things, supposed to have been on bo*ard, were not there, and it took some days to set the matter to rights. It was found that the water coming out of the tanks was thick, owing to its being constantly disturbed by tbe rolling of the vessel, and it was intended to condense the water for the men after leaving Albany.
BLENHEIM, this day
Ten men of the Fifth Contingent under Lieut. Simson, left for Wellington yesterday, and had an enthusiastic send-off.
