PARNELL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting o the Parnell Borough Council was heL last evening. Present, His Worshi the Mayor (Mr Hugh Campbell) in th chair, Cfs. Briggs, McCabe, Fitt, Tews ley, Gilmore, .Mowbray, Friend, Pel -ford and Cozens. Correspond en eel.—Letters were re ceived from Mr A. -Milne, Eldon, r the formation of a road from tha street to the beach, and offering t render help in the work.—Referred t Foreman of Works to report as to cos —Prom Mr C. E. Baker, complain in of neglect in the carrying out of th {rubbish contract. Referred to cor tractor for explanation.—Prom Mr _\ Ronayne, complaining of the state c Tararua Terrace. Referred to Street Committee.—A letter was receive signed by fifteen residents of Scarbor Terrace, complaining of offensive ma ter deposited in the tip in that localit. by Mr F. S. Igoe. It was decided t send the letter to Mr Igoe with art quest to remove the cause of the con plaint. Foreman of -Works Report,—T_ Foreman of Works reported tarrin and sanding several streets, and r< pairing two main drains. Turncock's Report,—The Turncoc reported doing some minor repaii and making some connections. Domain Street. —A letter was-rece ved from three residents of Domaii street, asking the Council to form an make a road from Park Road East t
Maunsell Road.—Referred to Streets Committee.
Finance. —Accounts io the amount of ±472 10/0 were passed for payment.
Drainage.—Cr. Petford moved, (1)
'"That all persons laying private drains be duly licensed.*' (.'.) "That proper pans and specifications he drawn up for said work, to be carried out in it proper manner." (3) "That all plan, of proposed drains be laid before tin' Council before a permit is granted." Some discussion ensued and the matter wa. referred to a special eommitle.to frame by-laws dealing with the question. On the motion of Cr. Friend, Crs. Pitt, Petford, Briggs, McCabe, the mover, and the Mayor were appointed a committee.
Cartage Contracts.—Some discussion ensued on the consideration of tlie cartage contracts as to whether the Council should take over the cartage, instead of having it done by contract. Referred to Streets Committee.
Repairs to Council Offices.—On the motion of Cr. Pill, the question of repairs to the Council Offices was referred to the Streets Committee.
Street Lamp.—it was decided to place a street lamp on Manukau Road opposite Miss Matson's gate.
Bubonic Plague.—A letter was re-1 ceived from the Town Clerk of Ancle-1 land (Mr H. ... Wilson), inviting the] Council to send delegates to a eouterenee to be held on Monday, the ivlh inst., to deal with the question of the plague. The invitation was accepted and Crs. A. P. Friend, McCabe, nnd the Mayor were, appointed delegates.
