LICENSING COMMITTEE ELECTION.

TEN O'CLOCK V. ELEVEN O'CLOCK CLOSING.

Last- evening a meeting was held in the Foresters' Hall in connection with the Licensing Committee election on Wednesday. Mr T. McMaster presided. On the motion of the Rev. W. S. Potter the following resolution was carried: "That in the best interests of good citizenship, which includes home protection, this meeting of Christian citizens expresses its approval of the proposal to revert to the closing of publichouses at ten o'clock, which'; was secured in ISB4 by an overwhelming vote in its favour at the ballot-box, and remained as the closing hour until September, 189S, when the Licensing Committee, at the instigation of the liquor party, without allowing the wishes of the people to be consulted, extended the hour to eleven o'clock. This meeting therefore urges the citizens to return the gentlemen who have publicly expressed themselves .an .favour of ten o'clock closing, and trusts thatthe electors will realise their responsibility of deciding tin. issue at the ballot-box on Wednesday "ex*;" Mr R. French intimated that the Baptist Tabernacle, St. John's Wesleyan Church. Church of Christ (West-street), Franklin Road Primitive Methodist Church, and the Salvation Army Barracks had that evening resolved to vote for ten o'clock closing.'
