THE ÜBIQUITOUS RAT.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Will you kindly tell us how rats are to be caught and destroyed who nest in linings and overhead in our houses, making night hideous with their revelry, devouring all sorts of poisons laid, and apparently "asking for more?" The "harmless" cat is really not "necessary," for the rats ignore her; she cannot- get in the linings or overhead. The same must be said of traps. Surely the snaring of the wily brutes is a fine art not given to ordinary folk. Then they have a sweet way of dj'ing at home that is n climax to the misery, unless indeed they are to bring us the plague. —I am, etc.,
