STILL SPREADING IN SYDNEY.

DEATH OF A GIRL

' SYDNEY, March 17. A girl named McCann has died of plague at Miller's Point. Dovey's father has been attacked by plague,' and another suspicious ease is reported in the vicinity of Sussexstreet. Over 1000 people have been inoculated.

Another suspicious case of plague has been discovered, that of a married woman named McLaughlin. She and her family have been quarantined. Large quantities of fish are dying in the harbour. This is believed to be the result of the disinfectants used in cleansing the wharves and sewers. A boat collected the dying fish, which | were taken to the market, but the police stopped the sale,. THE DOVEY FAMILY. : HOW THEY WERE INFECTED. The fact that several members of the Dovey family have developed symptoms of bubonic plague since they .were removed to quarantine might be. taken to indicate that the infection: has spread from person to person. Dr. Ashburton Thompson, speaking on the subject, said that he had made personal inquiries into the case of the family. It was not worth while to go into details yet, but he was perfectly satisfied that the three children were' infected, from the same source, and probably at the same time. At any rate, they did not contract the disease froni each other. The source, he was driven to conclude, was the Moore Park tip. The father had some irregular employment, but the mother did. a good deal of rag' picking-, and

when the children wrere admitted to the Quarantine Station they were covered with flea bites as thickly as they could be. The doctor has no doubt from the inquinries he has made that the primary source of infection for that family was the tip.

MELBOURNE, March 18. The crusade against rats has extended to remote country districts.
