BAND CONTEST.

The band contest was brought to a close about midnight on Saturday. The following are the results of the later competitions; —Euphonium: Donaldson( Wellington Garrison), 104 points, 1; E. Smith (North-east Valley), 103 points, 2; C. H. Greening (Petone), 101 points, 3. Slide trombones: H. Oakes (Naval Institute), 86 points, 1; L. Spurdle (Wanganui Garrison), 77 points, 2; T. Gray (Wanganui), 75 points, 3. The Wellington Garrison wins the Besson Shield, with a total of 354 points, which were awarded for music—in marching competition, 60; own selection, 133; test selection, 161. They also win the first prize of £100 for 'their own and test selections, results of which give the bands the following points:—Wellington Garrison. 253 points; second prize, £50, North-east Valley' (Dunedin), 276 points; third prize, £25, Nelson Garrison, 264 points; fourth prize, £15, Woodville, 261 points; fifth prize, £10, Palmerston 'North, 252 points; sixth prize, £5, Jupp's, 246 points. Petone and Naval Institute bands scored 230 points each, and Mitchelltown 213 points. ,
