At the Band Contest, Francis (Palmerston North) won' the tenor solo with 82 points, and Forest (Wellington) the baritone solo with 107 points, within one of the possible. Flint (North East Valley) was second with 105 points. Judge Code said he never heard such beawtiful' playing as by these two. Buckley (Wellington) won the soprano cornet solo with 107 points, and the Wanganul Garrison carried off the quartette for cornets, euphonium and tenor horn, with 12G points Wellington Garrison being second with 124 points.
