The friends of Mr Tihomas Jttogers, Franklin Boad, of this city, will =ba pleased to hear that his brother, Col. John .Rogers, C.8., who is one of the British army officers lent to the Egyptian army, has recently been promoted to the dignity of a pasha by the Khedive. This promotion carries with it the rank of major-general in the Egyptian army. Colonel Rogers has for a. long time past occupied the position of director of supplies in the Egyptian army. He obtained his .CIS. in the Dongola. expedition, and the brevet rank of colonel in the last) expedition to Khartoum under General Kitchener. The following1 is an extract from the English "Graphic" of May 9th, ISoo:—Lieut.-Colonel John Eogers (El Kaimaran Rogers Bey), lof the Army Service Corps, served in the Egyptian army of 1882 (medal and Khedive's star) and in tho \ expedition into the Soudan under, Sir General Graham in ISB4, and was present in the engagement at El Teb and Tamai (two clasps). To those who ■do not, know the system that prevails in the supply and transport department, of which: Colonel Rogers Is chief, it would have seemed impossible for so much to be done in the space of a fortnight. No event within the range of military probabilities finds the- Egyptian Army Service Corps unprepared, and this miore than* anything else enabled the Sirdar to act promptly when orders were given ■with unexpected suddenness for an advance into the Soudan. . Colonel Rogers entered the array about 25 years ago, and has just- attained his 44-th year. Mnior-General Eogers is . a native of Wales.
