MAY QUEEN EXTENDED.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent;
THAMES, this day
Work on behalf ol' this Company is confined to the sinking of the shaft on the creek reef which is down to a depth of eighty-one feet. This work has been carried on by contractors who have a further depth of twenty feet to go. It is the intention of the manager to sink to a depth of one hundred and sixty feet before commencing^ to drive on' the course of the reef. The pump recently erected by Messrs Price Bros, is giving every satisfaction, and is capable of lifting a much larger quantity of water than it has to contend with at the present time. Tn the Adelaide section of the property a tribute block has been let and the party commenced work yesterday. Another block in this section has also been applied for by tributers, and the appiicaiioii has been forwarded on to the directors. As a number of tributers on the Thames have small parcels of ore. and are unable, to have them crushed owing to no battery being available, it is stated that Mr K. Kersey Cooper has been asked to lay oft' a portion of the Fame Fortune Battery for thiST purpose, and that he is likely to accede to the request. If this is done the great difficulty which often hinders tributers will be,overcome.
