WAIHI EXTENDED.

Mr William Cussen, mining- and surveying- engineer to the Waihi Extended G.M. Company, has been in Waihi conducting- the boring- operations, and doing- other work on behalf of that company. Mr Cussen reports that the bore is now down 160 ft, and is in gooi* country, having got through the boulders which proved so troublesome. To prevent the influence of the "pug," three inch pipes are1 being sunk to keep the bore clear, and is now sinking at Ihe rate of 50 or GOft per day. The first bore was sunk to a depth of 300 ft, and penetrated into the lode for a depth of,' 30ft, but owing to the "pug" boring had to be relinquised. This depth of 300 ft is exactly the same depth at which the Grand Junction property first struck their reef. The present boring operations on the Extended company's property is northeast of the Grand Junction, and close to that company's and Extended boundaries. The specimens of quartz taken out of the first bore, when in the lode, are of a very sa.tisfactory nature indeed, and speak volumes for the future prospects of this company. The strike of the lode traverses a distance of 311 chains through the Extended property. Mr Cussen is of the opinion that there will not be much trouble with the water when sinking the shaft, except some from the surface. He has also been engaged in laying off sites for the battery and machine workings, cyanide plant and residence sites for the workmen. This company has granted a site to the Grand Junction company for a battery and other workings.

These operations prove that the Extended company arc going to push ahead rapidly. Mr Cussen is himself quite satisfied as lo the future of this company, and speaks highly of its prospects.
