IXVERCARGILL, this day.
At the Irish athletic sports G. Sutherland competed in the mile and three mile cycling races, winning the former, but was beaten .by Murie 240 yds) by half a wheel in the other. The track is not a good one, and Sutherland was heavily handicapped.
CHRISTCHURCH, this day.
The foundation stone of the new Agricultural and Industrial Hall was laid yesterday afternoon by the Mayor of Christchurch, with the usual ceremony. The hall and offices are expected to be finished by October, in time for the Canterbury Jubilee Exhibition, which will be held in it.
NAPIER, this day.
Ariti Pua, the Maori woman who, it is alleged, was attacked by her husband, Eopata, with an axe, lies in the hospital unconscious. Her condition is critical.
Seventy names have been sent in for the proposed new rifle corps, it is also proposed to establish a cycle corps.
