ONEHUNGA WATER SUPPLY.

The Onehunga Borough Council last night 'adopted the following amended proposals for the disposal of the surplus water flowing from the Onehunga springs to the Mamikau Water Supply' Board on the recommendation of the Water

Committee:—l. That the Onelmuga Borough Council agree to permit the Manukau Water Supply Board to take water from the. Springs at Onehunga upon the following conditions at the rate of Id per thousand gallons. 2. The Onehunga Borough Council will permit the Manukau Water Supply Board to erect pumpingmachinery upon a site to be defined prior to any agreement being entered into; also .to enlarge the springs and 'to collect water from all springs under the control of the Council, including the Captain's spring and the railway springs, into a receiving pond provided that the works shall bo carried out after notice with the approval of the Onehunga. Horough Council and subject to the provisions of the Water Supply Act. 1891. 3.

Permission will be given to the Manukau Water Supply Board to open up any street required in the Borough of Onehunga, in order to enable the said Board to connect with their reservoir upon One-tree Hill, provided that the said Board be responsible for the street maintenance of such track piping, and further, that the said Hoard do agree to absolutely indemnify the said Council for any damages that might possibly arise, at any time, from injury to persons, or damage to property by neglect upon their part in maintaining such truck during the construction of the said works. -I. After the first year from the starting of the pumps, the minimum to be paid by the Manukau Water Supply Board for water consumed shall be .£2OO per annum. If the Manukau Water Supply Hoard, does not take steps to curry out the scheme within six months from the signing- of the agreement, the said agreement to be cancelled. 5. in the event at any time of any shortage of water taking place, the Onehunga Borough Council shall have the first right of supply of such water remaining for the requirements of the inhabitants of the Borough of Onehunga, "requirements" to mean a consumption of 30 gallons per inhabitant per day. 6, The Manukau Water Supply Board shall pay to the Onehunga Borough Council n ground rent of £5 per annum for the sile referred to in clause 2. 7: The agreement to be for 42 years subject to the right of the Board to determine the agreement in case the water becomes unpotable or is insufficient for the requirements of the Board. 8. The Onehunga Borough Council to initiate and to continue throughout the borough the most scientific sanitary system in connection with the borough drainage and the disposal of its sewage, with the object of maintaining the purity oi' the water. 9. That all legal and engineering expenses in connection and continuance of this agreement shall be> defrayed by the Manukau Trust Board. 10. That the supplying of the shipping and Mangere. still remain an integral portion of Onehunga water supply. 11. That this draft be submitted to Manukau Trust Board, and if meeting with their approval, the borough solicitor? be requested to draw up a draft agreement upon these lines for the approval of this Council.
