The Miners' Union Sports, were held: on Monday. The day was fine though very dusty. T.lie sum of £26 16s was taken at the gates, about five Hundred and eighty people being- present. Considering- the close holiday this was a small attendance. The band, headed by two/ Highland pipers, marchefr to the ground, led by Mr Richard Xewdick, president of the Union. Clarice, was disqualified in the Cup for not sending- in proper performances. Hendry gave an exhibition of -trick riding-. The events resulted:--Maiden Eaee. 120 yds; Carrol 1, Hopkins 2, Adams 3. Maiden Bicycle Handicap, one mile: Lowe 1, Lavelle 2, Uibbons 3.
Union Cup, three distances; cup value £7, second 50/, third 30/. First distance, 440 yds: George, 25yds, 1:! 'Jill, 25yds, 2; Smith, 4yds, 3. Second distance, 220 yds, George 1, Gill 2. Asher 3. Clarke won this heat but was disqualified. Third distance, 100 yds: Asher 1, George 2, Gill 3.. George won the Cup with eight points. Gill •was second with five points, and Asher third with four points. High Jump: Farrow,* 2in, sft 43in, .1: McLean, Sin. sft 3Jin, 2. Hurdles, 120 yds: Carroll 1, Tanner 2, Farrow 3. Bicycle Handicap, one mile: Draffin 1. Tressider 2, Irwin 3. Tainning Hop Step and Jump: Carkon, 42ft, lin, l;j Cowan. 42ft, -2; Kenny, 41ft 2Jin 3. Half-mile Flat: J. Gill 1; Tanner 2. Miners' Truckers' Eace: Tanner 1. Irvine 2, Hopkins 3. Two-mile Wheel Race: Draffin 1, Irwin 2, Tressider 3. One-mile Flat: Wyatt 1, Swan 2, Roberts 3. Pole Vaulting: Morgan, Lavelle and.
