The Marine Department reports that the Tutanekai is proceeding to lay a cable between East Cape lighthouse and the mainland. She also carries a lantern apparatus, with men, to complet the work. The Tutanekai afterwards repairs the Cook's Straits cable.

The police cleverly succeeded in recovering £497 18s" 9d of the £530 stolen at Fort Rose, for the alleged theft of which John Trembath has been arrested.
