CHEESE ANALYSIS.

RESULT OF MR POND'S TEST. '■!

• The report of Messrs J. A. Pond and 'Dr. Maclaurin regarding the alleged ; ,case iof .ptomaine poisoning at the Thames will relieve the minds of those persons who enjoy cheese for dessert, as the decision of the analy* sists -is that it was not. poisonous. The report as forwarded to Inspector Culleri reads as follows:—"On the 19th uIL we received frOm you; through Constable Hooker, two exhibits in re the decease of an infant named Charles Henry Kirby,: assumed to have died from ptomaine poisoning in consequence of the mother being ill after partaking of some cheese. These exhibits are, the fluid from the abdomen of the deceased, and a portion of cheese. We have examined the fluid from the body, and have found no trace of alkaloid, or ptomaine, and- no trace of mineral poisons. We have also examined the cheese and found no trace of alkaloids or mineral poisons. Mice fed with the cheese for 4S hours did,not suffer in consequence. We .are, therefore, of opinion that the cheese -is not poisonous." .
