A match was sailed on Saturday I afternoon between the one-raters Alma (Messrs Stevenson and Frater) and Bellbirtl (Mr J. Donald) for £5 a-side. The course was from Victoria Wharf, round buoy in Rangitoto Channel, round Viking's moorings round Calliope Dock buoy, twice round, about fifteen miles. Bellbird held the lead to North Head, where the wind fell light and Alma passed her. Round the Viking's moorings Alma led by lmin 40sec, and at the end of the first (round she was 2min 20sec ahead. Alma held her lead to the Viking's moorings, Bellbird being unable to close up, and at the finish Alma's lead was 2min 20sec. After the finish of the race the health of the crews was honoured, and the stakes were handed to the winner.
