AUCKLAND ROUGH RIDERS. j t This morning the "Rough Rider" 1 volunteers in camp at Potter's Pad- . dock were given instruction by Lieut, i Walker in foot drill, going through s the same movements as in mounted < infantry. After breakfast the men 1 were taken' in mounted drill, and went through some useful move- • ments. As soon as the carbines for i the Rough Riders come to hand the ; men will be told off into squads, and will be instructed in the manual exercise and firing exercise by lion- ' commissioned officers of the No. 1 Rifle Battalion. ( Yesterday forenoon a church ' parade was held at the camp, the Primate (Bishop Cowie) preaching an appropriate sermon. In the course of his addi ess lit. held up Lord Roberts as an example of a good soldier which every one bearing arms should endeavour to imitate. On Sunday afternoon a large number of visitors inspected the camp. FRESH APPLICATIONS. The following additional applications for enrolment. In the Auckland contingent of the Rough Riders have been received:— Henry Paton (Dargaville), aged 27; good rider, fair shot, no volunteer ' experience; can provide horse. James Paton (Dargaville), 24 years; good rider, fair shot; can provide horse. Donald M.
