HARBOUR BOARD.

The following business was transacter at the meeting of the Harbour Board/ after we went to press yesterday:-^- .

Complaint.—Dr. Bakevvell forwarded a complaint that on race days the Ferry Co.- paid no attention to the time-table as to running to the Devonport wharf. The writer also, drew attention to the amount of beach that is taken up by yachts, which he considered should be left open for (lie children and others to walk upon. The letter was referred to the Pin a nee and Legal Committee.

Dredge.—The employees of Dredge No. 121 petitioned to lw put on eighthours shifts, with overtime, instead of ten hours as at present. The chairman, Mr W. J. Napier, said it was not the intention of the Board that men should work ten hours. Mr Julian said he thought the men only really worked four lours. The letter was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee.

Victoria Wharf.—The plans of additions to Victoria wharf were approved.

, Admiralty House. —It was resolved that architects be invited to furnish sketches of a house for the Admiral, the sketch approved to be paid for to the extent of £10 10/.

Chelsea Wharf.—The following tenders were received for Chelsea wharf: 11. B. Martin, £720 (accepted); Alex. Watson, £896; and James and Co., £SO6. The estimate was £000. of which the Colonial Sugar Co. contributes. £500.

Railway Wharf.—lt was resolved to give three months' notice to the holders ofithe coal depots at the Railway wharf.

Revision of Salaries. ~- .The Hoard went info committee for the. purpose of fixing salaries for the ensuing year. Applications for increases were received from C. La Roche, T. F. Tester, nnd W. A. Cowan. The following increases were agreed upon: H. TT. Laird, clerk, from £200 to £225. and a bonus of £50 for services rendered during the Secretary's absence in London; C. La Roche, from C2OO to £250; T. F. Tester, from £01 to £125; C. Holmes, from £45 to £G5: W. A. Cowan, from £130 to £140. With regard to the deck hands on the dredge. Mr Gunson argued that men should not be paid less than £2 per week. This was agreed to. the wages of B. Sterling. R. Ilyncs, and G. Burgess being raised from £7 to £8 per month. McSwee]ey, boy on wharf, was raised from £3 to £4 }w.r month. A motion to give to Mr Brigham the £236 11/. balance of the £1000 allowed by the Admiralty for Secretary's expenses, was negatived.

It was agreed, on the motion of the Chairman, that the next' meeting of the Hoard should be held on Thursday, December 28.
