FIRE AT DEVONPORT.
A:fire broke out 'this morning a little alter six o'clpck in a dwelling- fit Calliope .Road pevohpprt," in the occupation ot Mr JolnfT. DroiigM, wife, and four children.. The inmates had to be iarousedr and' billing hands helped to save some of the furniture and- effects. The Eire Brigade was speedily on the spot, but the water pressure was not great. The house was practically gutted, but the adjoining- properties, those in close proximity, were saved from any damage. The fire originated in the wash-house, which is very close to the house. ' The house was owned by Captain Douglas, and Was insured in 'the New Zealand Insurance Com* pany's office for £275.. The furniture in the same office for £-100. The house was occupied by the owner for some years, but recently he'let it furnished, Captain Douglas;.'having left with his family for a trip to Honolulu, via Newcastle.
