WESLEYAN SYNOD.
The financial session of the Synoti was opened at 2.30 p.m. yesterday afternoon in the Pitt street Wesleyau Schoolroom. The Her. H. E. Dewsbtiry, Chairman 6f the Auckland Dis-» .riot, presiding. There were also present:—Revs, dittos, Simmortds, Murray, H. EC. Lawry, Becroft, Best, S. Lawry, Rothwell, Griffith, Pcndray, Pinfold, Marshall, Ready, Chapman, Mitchell, Beckett, Wills, Hauraki Paul, Home Missionaries: Messrs Bridgnian, Blamires Patchelt, Header, and Richards. Laymen: Messrs Prime, Gunsqh, Flemming. Robins, . Cliff, Chapman, Miller, Allen, Lawn, Parker, Spence, Buttle,' Buddie, Walker, Lawry, Snehy Mason. - - The Chairman opened the session' Iby a hopeful, comprehensive and elo--, quent address, in which ministers arid" laymen attending Synod for first time were heartily welcomed.; Reference was made to the success* ful work of I{he pafet year, which gave cause for great thankfulness, and augured well for the. future. Church buildings have been erfefetL in the Thames, Goro'iftandfel, _?itt-_t.i and Devonport circuits. . Satisfaction was expressed at the find stand talcen by the Wesleyan Church against' the drink evil, aud special emphasis by the Chairman was laid on the/fact that as a church they stood absolutely solid on this question, and were proud of the men who were in the forefront of the battle. The Century Fun_ and Maori work received attentions/In anticipating future wOrk, the needor renewed consecration and entire dependence on the Holy Spirit was faithfully and earnestly pointed, out,;, It was resolved that Conference be requested to appoint additional ministers to Pitt-st. and Devonport circuits and home missionaries to the Upper Thames, Franklin and Whangftrel circuits. Permission was granted to Rev. W. Gittos to appoint additional Maori agents to the Hokianga fend Waikato districts, on the understanding that no charge be made to the Home Mission Fund. SynouV The total amount raised for home missions in the Auckland'district d.tv ing the past year was £ 482; 13/1. ~ Business was resumed at half past seven. The Home Mission Fund'."A'jJm : brought ttnder consideration. The income estimated for the following year in the Atick.la.nd district Was £928. Home mission grants t6'the various circuits were considered Stta the following recommended to he granted by Conference:—To Madn missions,* £608; to Home Mission stations: Bay of Islands £20, Whangafta £25, Hokianga £40, KuaOtUhu #«. The Synod resumed this morniii? after religious exercises.. Further business was transacted. . Mr W. D. Buttle presented the annual report of. the church property/in the district, Which showed ...that- /the total receipts were £ 5168 14/6. The expenditure included alterations alia repairs to the value of £301 ,19/2; enlargements and minor improve-, ments. £1652 6/11. The. debt to the Church Building and Loan, Fund Ms been increased by £455, whilst . the debt on other securities has been.reduced £600, leaving a net redaction on of £145. a The following, additions of property were reported: "Henderson, erection °t new church; Sunnyside, erection of new church; Thames, Sunday-school; Waihi, vestry to church; Waihi, par-/ sons_. site; Te Aroha, parsonage, altered' and enlarged; Onehunga, par-; socage; Papakura, land; Paparoa, new organ; Northern Wairoa, Church; Kaeo, "parsonage; Coromandel, '.n.e^ church; Coromandel, uew parsonage i site; Helping Hand Mission, parsonage. •/ ■ ■: ,; -i"■:'" The Synod sanctioned the erection of new church at Mount Eden, ana new parsonage at Mt. Albert, on lano given by Mr Caughey; also new church at Warkworth, new parsonages at Te Aroha, Coromandel, ana purchase of land at Devonport.
