PAEROA, this day.

FIRE BRIGADE,

. The annual meeting of the Paeroa Fire Brigade, was held on Saturday evening, Mr Lomas Smith presiding. The annual report was read by the Secretary, J. Howie. It stated, amongst other things, that the Brigade had been instrumental in extinguishing fo'tir fires during the year ending 31st October, 1899. They "had also been successful in several competitions'at the Paeroa and Mackaytown sports. } The Brigade is well • upplied Avith appliances for fighting the fire fiend, and expects shortly to be able to bring six leads, if necessary, to bear on any fire. The Brigade has also been supplied with uniforms of ihe Association pattern. The members have decided;to make a presentation to Captain O'Hara, who has retired, after serving since the formation of the brigade, and to whose energy and attention the efficiency of the Brigade is largely due. The officers for the coming twelve months are: Captain Hunt, Lieut. Casley, Secretary James Howe_ The Brigade intend sending a team to New Plymouth during the Christmas holidays to take part in the competitions there.
