The streets tramway question is likely to form an important element in the Mayoral election. The "Post" point out that the chief obstacle <to the establishment of an efficient service is the claims advanced by the present tramways proprietors. It is contended that they, have no claim to a goodwill, based on a monopoly of the right to run trams in the public streets, and it is suggested that Mr Kennedy McDonald would be placed in an anomalous position as Mayor between his duty to the citizens and his interests as a. trustee of the Tramway Co.
