A second slope has been started in the drive north. The leader looks weft, showing colours of gold freely where the quartz has been broken down. Mr John McCombie reports that at No. 1 level the No. 2 Avinze is down a depth of 39 feet, and the lode, which is being- broken out to an aA*erage width of three feet, continues to yield ore of good quality. Owing- to the difficulty of obtaining suitable men for the work of driving-, the contractors have only been able to carry on AA'ith one shift at No. 2 level. IMPERIAL. The winze on the new reef below the surface level is cloaati 23 feet, and so far the lode has been proved to be a very promising body of ore, about two feet in thickness, from which fair dish prospects are obtained. The same reef Avas intersected last Thursday in the Avestern crosscut, and Avas two feet thick, the stone being of a curly nature and carrying blue sulphides. The ore is evidently of a payable character. Driving has been commenced on the course of the reef. The country-is of an excellent description, being 'interlaced with quartz' stringers, which are dropping into the reef. WAIHI EXTENDED. Boring in this mine was stopped at 330 feet, and a start made in a fresh place, Where the bore is now down forty feet. Boulder formation has been met with, but it is expected the bore will be through it shortly. KHARTOUM.
