Mr Hislop has definitely decided to throw in his lot with Messrs J. Hutcheson and Atkinson; ■

The Government ticket, if I am correctly informed, will comprise Mr Kennedy Macdonald, Mr George Fisher and Mr C. Luke. There are rumours afloat pointing to some modification of this combination, and to the substitution of a Labour candidate^ fo be.

The field from, which a Labour representative may be chosen is legion, and whoever the choice falls upon there is little prospect of the decision being unanimously approved. At. present the Liberal Labour Party and other organisations are far from being a happy family. Last night the Wellington Workers' Political "Association held a meeting for the purpose of selecting a candidate for one of the city seats, when the following were nominated: Messrs D. P. Fisher, R. Hornblow, T. Carmichael, A. Collins and W. Naujfhton. It was resolved to leave nominations open until Saturday evening, when, the candidates named are invited to deliver addresses, in poiut of fact, show their political paces before a final ballot is taken.1 The limit for each speaker is to be twenty minutes. The ladies are actively canvassing, among those most energetic being Mrs. Wilford, who has organised a Ladies' Committee to further her husband's candidature.

Mr John Hutclieson informs me that he does not intend to be present at the inquiry regarding the ketch Envy, which* is to take place in Auckland, as he regards it as a ruse of the enemy to draw him away from the election struggle. Mr Kirk announces that he will vigorously prosecute his election campaign and go to the poll regardless of the Government's choice of Mr Wili'ord.
