THE BOYD 'BEQUEST.
Tt will, no doubt, be fresh in the memories of citizens that the sum of £1000 was bequeathed by the late Mrs Boyd for the purpose of providing statuary for the Albert-Park. His Worship tho Mayor, Mr David Goldie, has been in communication with various^ authorities in connection with procuring the statuary, and has received photographs of fivo different sets of statues from which to make selection. These represent "The Day," "The Night," Antinous," "Venus de Medici," Venus Calligno," "Narcissus," "Carnovas," "Dancers," "The Four Seasons," and four representing "Sculpture," "Painting," "Music," and ."Architecture," Choice is given of any two sets for £900, leaving £-10 for carrying and erecting- the statues, wnich are Gft 6in in height, and will be supplied with pedestals. The letter points out. that with the money it. is proposed to expend, the Council could not get more than four pieces of statuary, but could have six to eight statues carefully executed by good Florentine sculptors. The matter will be submitted at the next meeting of the Council.
