AUCKLAND HOTELS.
MEETING OF LICENSING BENCH
The quarterly meeting of the Auckland Licensing Bench was held this afternoon at the S.M. Courthouse. Mr H. W. Brabnt, S.M., presided, and the members of the committee present were:—Messrs T. T. Masefield, J. T. Julian, C. S. Wright, and J. Patterson. The following transfers of city hotel licenses were granted:—Central Hotel, Benj. J. Roberts to J. Iiolleston; Newton Hotel, Peter F. Purcell to Malcolm Treston; Wynyard Arms Hotel, R. T. Michaels to F. O'Dowd; Metropolitan Hotel, John Morrison to E. Drake. Sub-Inspector Wilson, who represented the police, said the reports were favourable. L. J. Moir, master of the s.s. Kawau, applied for a packet license for that steamer, trading between Auckland and Mangawai. The application was granted. A police report on repairs, etc., to various hotels was presented and read. It stated that at the Waverley Hotel another double wire ladder fire escape would be placed in position at once. The fire ladders at the Central Hotel had been fixed in positoin. In connection with the Shamrock Hotel, the owners had promised to have a fixed iron ladder on the Wellesley-st. side of the hotel. Extensive alterations were in progress at the Albert Hotel and this matter would accordingly stand over till next quarterly meeting.
