HARBOUR BOARD.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the members of the above Board was held at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon, when there were present, Messrs W. J. l\ Tapier (Chairman), J. H. Witheford, W. Gunson, W. J. W. Philson, T. Mackay, A. Kidd, J. Thoraes, J. Stichbury, M, Niccol and J. T. Julian. Brick Bay.—The Government having approved of the proposed wharf at Brick Bay it was resolved to call for tenders forthwith. Freeman's Bay.—The letter from the Auckland Gas Company re' the extension of the tinie of contract for filling in Freeman's Bay was referred to the Legal Committee. Claim for Kedress.—A letter was read from the manager of the N.Z. Shipping Company asking for redress from the Board because in putting in foundations for. the new offices an old silt basin was discovered.—The Chairman moved that the letter be referred for consideration to the Finance and Legal Committee. He said while there might not be a legal claim, it was possible the Board might consider there' was a moral one in this case. —Mr W. Gunson seconded the motion. —Mr Iviecol said there could not possibly be either a legal or moral claim in this matter. It would be a great mistake for the Board to admit any claim under such circumstance,*;. All sorts of material had been cast into Freeman's Bay and it would not do to render the Board liable for any person making a claim j M 7ho came upon unsuitable ground for \ putting in foundations.—Mr Philson J suggested that a legal opinion j should be got upon the mat-j ter. The letter was referred to. the ! Committee, Mr Houghton to be asked \ to attend, the solicitor's Opmion, also! to be obtained. Launch. —The Union Gas Engine : Co. wrote asking if the Board would be prepared to consider a tender for ! a launch complete, the same to be j fitted with a Union oil engine.—lt was ! resolved to reply that the Board had j decided to have a steam engine. . ~
