Two appropriations by sale in . the first group were also to have taken place, the upset price being fixed at £40 per share, but no tenders were received, and the meeting- was adjourned till Monday, 17th inst., when these appropriations will be allotted by ballot, as provided for in the rules. During tho evening Mr E. E. Jones, who presided, drew the attention of shareholders to the commissions which the directors were now paying out of the entrance fees to such shareholders as secured the taking up of shares in the third group, and mentioned that, judging by the way certain shareholders were responding, there was no doubt of that group being filled at an early date if a few others would exert themselves. He also mentioned that the society had, including that day's appropriations, distributed £14,000 by way of loans among its members during the two and a quarter years of its existence.
