Apropos of the Waikare's excursion to the Islands, some. interesting particulars have been published as to the preparations which have to be made by the Union Co. for such a trip. She is fitted throughout like a yacht and has a hospital with ventilating, fans, a complete photographic studio and dark room for developing, a.barber's shop with, four barbers, a tobacconist's shop, and a drapery "trade" shop for people desiring to make presents to the Islanders.'ln her cold chambers were placed 20 tons of-beef, a ton of butter, 2000 head of ,game and poultry brought from all parts of the world, many tons of fresh fish from New Zealand, Australia, : California, and Scotland, 18,000 fresh eggs, 10 tons of ice for cabin consumption. 330 501b cases.' of choice fruits specially. packed for the. trip, and many tons of ordinary 'stores. In the wine .room is sufficient liquor to stock a large, hotel, Australian clarets and mineral Waters predominating., The Union Company^, officers are experts at the fitting out of. these expeditions.
