THE OPERA HOUSE.

"LIFE FOR LIFE."

The Lyceum Dramatic Company appeared last night at the Opera House in Sims and Pettit's powerful drama, "Life for Life." The staging was excellent, and the realistic incident of the attempt to blow up Holloway Goal; by dynamite deserves special mention. Mr Walter Dalgleish gave a finished performance of the adventurer Philip Routledge, giving fresh evidence of this youug actor's versatility; and Mr D. L. Dalziel held the sympathies of the audience throughout as the much-maligned hero Walter Granville. John Grant, on whose murder, by the - Socialist McGee' the story hinges, was capably played by Mr.. F. F. Godfrey; and Mr Horace Knight gave a careful study of the "Reformer." The comedy parts, in the hands of Messrs Charles Hill, J. L. Lambert, and.Miss Mac Brind, caused ho end of amusement, and Miss Linda Raywood looked and acted prettily as Bella Livingstone. Miss Annie Brandt played consistently as Kate Granville, and deserves credit for her interpretation of a difficult role; and as little Jack Granville little Miss Car-' son made a favourable impression. Considering the care with which the dramas have been staged and the allround capability of the performers, at.- the very moderate prices of admission the company are well deserving of support.

The great temperance drama "Ten Nights in a Bar Room " is in preparation. It wall be produced. to-morrow (Wednesday) night.!
