NORTH AUCKLAND RAILWAY.

Mr Alder Fisher, Secretary to the North Auckland Railway Extension League,, has issued the following circular letter to all the Auckland members setting forth the claims of the North Auckland railway:—"Sir,! have the- honour to inform you that the* above League has been formed here, with several branches throughout the North. More are- being formed. Its object is to use all means in its power for the furtherance of the extension of the present line of railway from Helensville northwards, as far'"as possible. This matter is being taken up warmly by the Chamber of Commerce, many members* headed- by the Chairman, having already joined the League, and subscribed to its funds, while others are joining daily. A petition is being drawn up for presentation to the House, which when signed will be forwarded. I have also to remind you that-when the Premier was here a deputation.waited on him, and he stated that the Cabinet had decided to devote £80,000 to this object. I feel it would be superfluous for me to enlarge on the hitherto complete isolation of the North with its wants and claims. I would however remind you of the large exports of timber and gum. This would be a small matter were the now inaccessible lands opened up; land second in quality to none in the colony. I refer more particularly to that between Hokianga, Whangarei and .Russell, where sub-tropical products of all kinds could be grown to advantage. Trusting you will use all means in your power to advance this object." The work of the League is being taken up with enthusiasm. in the North. Those who are willing to help should communicate with Mr Fisher, 15 Coombes Arcade.
