THE MARINE COMMISSION,
(By Telegraph-r-Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Monday,
On the Commission resuming this afternoon Mr T.W. Hislop asked permission to appear on behalf of Mr John Hutcheson, who was one of the public interested in the case.
Judge Ward asked what status Mr Hutcheson had in the matter. He had made no charges so far. When he did so, he could then be represented by . counsel. If Mr Hutcheson desired to give evidence, the Court would be very glad to hear him. At present he had no status.
The Court declined, at this stage, to allow Mr Hislop to appear. Mr Hanlon (explained that after consultation with the Government, it had been decided that Captain Allman would be furnished with counsel if necessary. Mr Hanlon said the Government did not intend to formulate any charges. If anyone appeared to be affected prejudicially notice would have to be given. Then, as to the conduct of the inquiry, certain witnesses would be summoned, and if it appeared that thejr were likely to be prejudicially affected they could employ counsel. The witnesses he intended to call were Mr Seddon, Mr Hall-Jones, Mr Glasgow, and Captains Allport, Allman, Jones, • and Yon Sehoen, for whom he would issue subpoenas at once. He asked for an adjournment till eleven a_m. to-mor-row, when he would be" prepared to go on with the case without a break.
The Commission adjourned at a quarter to three p.m.
