THE ELECTORAL CAMPAIGN.
THE EDEN SEAT.
LIBERAL ELECTORAL BRANCH
FORMED
Last evening a meeting of electors in the Eden Electoral District was held in the Tailoresses' Hall, Cookstreet, convened by Mr Arthur Edwards, organisng secretary to the N.Z. Liberal and Labour Federation, for the purpose of forming a branch of the Federation for the electoral district in question. About twentyfive people were present. Mr Bruce, of Northcote, was called to the chair, and explained the object of the meeting. Mr Edwards explained the principles and objects of the Liberal and Labour Federation of New Zealand, and said that first of all the electoral branch for. the Eden district would be formed, and then polling district branches, of which latter there would have to be nineteen in all. In the course of his remarks Mr Edwards said that there was nothing in the programme of the Federation to justify the assertion of a newspaper correspondent recently that it was a single-tax league. It had nothing to do with sfiigle-tax, but membership was open to the single-taxers and every other Liberal. .Branches would be formed in each place, and the branches would then take steps to decide on a candidate to be supported as the Liberal candidate and work for his return to Parliament. On the motion of Mr Gerald L. Peacocke, it was resolved unanimously "That a branch of the N.Z. Labour and Liberal Federation be formed in the Eden electorate." The following provisional committee was then elected to carry out the. pieliminary work .of organising the electorate:—Messrs McDermott (Arch Hill), Bruce (Northcote), L. Armstrong (Tithrangi), 'JOhn Budge '(Takapuna), R. Ellis, H. Niccol, G. L. Peacocke (Devonport), T. Battersby (Kingsland), W. Cv inmins, George Fowlds, W. T. Crosher, and Joshua Jackson (Northcote). Mr H. Niccol was appointed secretary pro tern.
