HAURAKI ASSOCIATED TRIBUTERS.

Messrs Thomson and party who are working a tribute in this mine, crushed ore that returned bullion worth £26 10/1.

THERMO-HYPERPHORIC WORKS.

The works of the Thermo-Hyper-phoric Company, at Te Aroha, have, under the superintendency of the Rev. Joseph Campbell, been running for about a fortnight with satisfactory results. The ore dealt with has been taken from the Tui mine, old Champion lode. This ore, as is well known, is of a very refractory nature, and Mr Campbell feels that if he can deal satisfactorily with this ore the problem Is solved for the whole of the colony. Re has therefore given unremitting attention to the treatment of this ore, about 100 tons having, been treated. The quantity put through would have been greater but

,one of the three concentrtaing tables was somewhat defective, and hence only two could be kept continually running, the capacity of each being three to four tons of ore in twenty-four hours. It is proposed to put two more tables down immediately, when the capacity of the.plant will be twenty tons daily of treated ore. From this 100 tons of ore four tons of concentrates were obtained, which will be finally treated during the coming week, as the furnace will be lit up on Monday evening. At the same time the concentrates are being treated bulk ore will be roasted in a portion of the furnace, as Mr Campbell has found that is the most profitable way of treating, this particular ore, as the light flakes of sulphide of silver assume a globular, form, whereas without roasting this is lost to a great extent, the difference in saving being 80 per cent, as against 50 per cent, without roasting in the Hyperphoric closed furnace. The ore is worth 35/ per ton, but as it can be broken, trucked and treated for 20/ per ton there is a good margin of profit. As the lode is a big one, if the ore keeps up to its present quality Mr Campbell considers there is a future before the whole distriot.
