WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the Waitemat County Council was held to-day, there being present Messrs .1. O'Neil (chairman), A. Bruce, Wilson, Sinclair, McCoy, Hatlield, Cochrane and Newman.

Wainui. —A petition was received from twenty-six residents of Waiuui asking the Council to make a road to their, property. The request was granted.

Wade Wharf. —A request was received from the Coastal Steamship Company asking the Council to extend, the wharf at the Wade at a cost of £120. It was resolved to do the work if the companies who use the wharf contribute £50. • Brooklyn Road.—A deputation requested the Council to connect the graded portions of the Brooklyn and Huia Eotcls at a cost of about £ 15. The request was granted. Kate.—The annual rate was struck in accordance with advertisement. Tenders. —The following tenders were accepted : Format ion 35 i chains Dairy Jflat Road, A. P. Rozier, £51; engineer's estimate, £78. Forming- of 10Q chains south of Dairy Bridge, 11. G. Carrie, £30 ss; engineer's estimate, £47. ■ Lucas' Creek Bridge (concrete), Mr Ouickshank, £250; engineer's estimate, £ 250. Waikumete Eiding.—A petition to be forwarded to the. House of Representatives was received from the residents and ratepayers in the Waikumete Eiding, asking for a grant of £GOO for the repair of roads and bridges in the riding. It was decide;! to support the petition. Henderson Swanson Road. —The; residents of Swanson and Henderson forwarded a petition to be sent to the House of Representatives praying for a grant of £200 for improvement of the Henderson-Swanson Road. The Council supported the petition. Riding Balances. —The receipts and expenditure of the various ridings wore set down as follow: —Wainui: Receipts, £100 13/7; expenditure, £125 1/1; Takapuna, £155 13/10 and £325 11/; Northcote, £223 0/4 and £203 9/11; Birkenhead, £28 9/3 and £157 13/; Kaukapakapa, £159 6/4 and £421 16/7; Helensville, £9 9/11 aud £150 8/4; Mairetahi, £42 11/ and £204 3/11; Waitakerei, £318 8/ and £215 10/3; Waikumete, £62 17/2 aud £325 11/9.

Greenhithe Wharf.—A petition was received from the residents of Birkenhead Biding in reference to the approach to the wharf, and it v/as decided to receive the petition, and that a special order be made at next meeting levying a special woi'ks rate for the purpose, of paying the interest on the. Council's contribution of £200 towards the wharf approach. Waiwera Wharf. —A petition intended for presentation to the House of Eepresentatives from the residents at Waiwera, requesting the Government to make a special grant of £750 towards the construction of a wharf at Waiwera, was received. —The Council resolved to strongly support the petition. ■. •.

Eeserves. — A petition was received from settlers in Pukeatua asking for reservation of two sections as kauri gum reserves. It was resolved to recommend that the land be sold, being too small for reserves.

Dairy Flat Koad. —A grant of £10 compensation was made to Mr Foley for deviation of Dairy Plat road, and it was resolved, that the rest of. the land required be taken under the Public Works Act.

Albany.—The Council resolved to support a petition from the residents of Birkenhead and Albany disti'icts, to be sent to the House of Representatives', requesting a grant of £500 to the Waitemata County Council for the completion of the metalling between Cut Hill and Albany.

Special Grants. —On Mr Sinclair's motion, it was decided to apply for speicial grants from Parliament as follows: —£300 Coast Main road; £600 Kumeu-Parkhurst road; £150 for HelensVille-Kaukapakapa road.
