FOOTBALL-ROUGH PLAY AT THE SHORE.

(To tfhe Editor.)

Sir,—lt was with much regret that I noticed on reading your report of the match Shore v. Grafton in Monday's issue comments on the rough play indulged in by some of the combatants. As a spectator at former matches at the Shore this season I am of tho. opinion that the Shore players are generally the principal offenders. It is to be hoped that our referees will in future exercise the powers invested in them and put down with a firm and resolute hand any such exhibitions of horse play as occurred on Satin-day, as oiheiwise football will speedily lose its prestige as king of our winter games.—l am, etc.,

A. NOONAN.
