Applications for the 30,000 shares offered for allotment to the shareholders of the company closed at noon yesterday, and as showing the confidence of the shareholders in the property, it is satisfactory to note that they applied for no less than 55,000 shares. The steamer Waikure, which leaves this port at 2 p.m. to-morrow on a six weeks' excursion trip to the South Kea Islands, passed Cape Maria Van Dieman at 9.30 a.m. to-day, and will arrive at about midnight. From Auckland the vessel proceedsto Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Rotumah, Banks Islands, New Hebrides, New Caledonia, and Norfolk Island. From Norfolk Island the steamer proceeds back to Sydney. It has been reported to the Collector of Customs that the black buoy usually moored S.W. of Motuihi is now anchored in the Motutapu passage, having evidently floated its moorings there during the late spring tides. A black wooden buoy, bound with iron, and with about four feet of chain attached, was found adrift near Tapu about a fortnight a_g-o and taken ashore. It may possibly prove to be one of the Thames Eiver buoys. Mariners will do well to take note of the above.

A claim for damages for trespass of oattle and damage to fences was heard at the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, George Harvey suing Everard J. Hobbs for £5. Mr McGregor appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Buddie for the defence. The latter quoted the case Olsen v. Bailey in support of his contention that by the provisions of the Impounding Act, 1884, no damages could be recovered for trespass on land not fenced in accordance with the provisions of the Fencing Act. Mr Brabant, S.M., upheld the contention and non-suited plaintiff, with costs. The case J. P. Sinclair v. Martin Saunders and Agnes Saunders, claim- for goods sold and delivered, was decided in favour of plaintiff, who was represented by Mr McVeagh. A claim for wages preferred by Jos. M. Rainbow against David Price was also decided. Plaintiff claimed £3 10/, but ultimately agreed to take £1, and judgment was entered for that amount, with costs 12/. Mr Burton appeared for the defence.
