N.Z. NATIVES ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING.

Last evening the annual meeting I of the Auckland branch of the N.Z. 1 Natives Association was held in the j Tailoresses' Hall, Cook-street. Mr .J. J. j O'Brien presiding. There was a fair attendance of members. The president, read the annual report, which j referred to the work of the nast year, land regretted the small attendance of members at the ordinary meeting's. There had been a considerable loss on the recent ball and the'summer picnic jof the Association. Relief had been | given from the funds to several cases of members or their relatives in distress* The secretary read the accounts and balance-sheet,. The re- | ceipts for the year were shown to have been £07 18/5, and after paying j the expenses of the year's work there was a sum of £25 0/8 in the bank. lAs the accounts had not yet been .audited the further consideration of i the balance-sheet was deferred till next meeting. The annual report was i adopted. In accordance with notice given Mr (!. Brabtn moved: "That the emergency fund be discontinued, and that j the subscription be fixed at 2/6 per j annum." Mr Marshall seconded the j motion, which gave rise to considerable discussion, several members ari guing that the -work of the Society j could not be carried on with a smaller subscription than 5/. Eventually Ml" Brabant's motion was. carried by 22 votes to 7. The salary of the secretary, Mr V. W. Lulming, was fixed at CIO for the past year. Mr .If J. O'Brien was re-elected president, for the ensuing year unopposed, and returned thanks for his election. Mr W. 11. Churton was elected vice-president.

For the secretaryship Messrs F. VV. Luh'ning and A. A. I'iesse had both been nominated, but as Mr Krnest Ford, the first president of the Association, had consented to take over the secretaryship this year, t'iie meeting agreed that there could not be a better choice intulc. Messrs Luhning and I'ies.sc withdrew their names, the former stating' that business requirements woidd prevent him from giving the necessary attention to the work. Mr Ford was then unanimously elected secretary of the Association amidst cordial applause. Mr P. Bryant was elected treasurer and Messrs Luhning and Mucky auditors. The following were elected members of the executive for the ensuing year:—Messrs (i. A. Hrabant, A. K. Brown, J. Donovan, \Y. Marshall, J. Regan, \V. Regan, and \V. G. Smith. A vote of thanks was accorde to the outgoing officers. Mr VV. 11. Churton read the report of the Fair Committee, from which it appeared that proposals were on foot to hold a Fair of All Nations in connection with the Association towards the end of this year, opening )on November 0 in the Agricultural Hall, in aid of the Association's hall fund. The report was adopted, and the action of the committee endorsed; and a vote of thanks was passed to Mr J. J. Craig for his offer of his large building on the railway reclamation.
