CLEVEDON STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY.
The annual meeting of shareholders in the Clevedon Steam Navigation Co. was held in the Clevedon Public Hall, Vairoa South, on June 24, Mr E. W. Alison presiding. The directors' report showed that the receipts for the year amounted to £1,286 6/6, being a decrease of £84 10/ as against last year. The. expenditure was £1,076 7/5, as against £1,123 16/4 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of £47 8/11. Included in this expenditure was an item of £56 6/, being amount paid to a Miss Spencer in settlement of a claim for an injury sustained by her when going aboard the steamer at Auckland. The above figures showed a profit for the year of £209 19/1, off which amount"the directors decided to write £75 as depreciation on steamer, leaving a balance of £134 19/1, which, added to the amount brought forward from last year (£33 4/) left an available balance of £173 3/1. This amount
the 'directors recommended to be allocated as follows: To payment of a dividend at the rate of 5 per cent. (£135), and carry the balance (£.48 3/1) forward to profit and loss new account. In accordance with the articles of association three directors retired, viz., Messrs. Wilson, Alison, and Baiter. The balance-sheet was also read, and showed that during the year a sum of £578 2/ had been paid in wages,and £118 18/3 for coal. The fares for passengers amounted to £ 360 16/, and that for freights £553 10/6. The report and accounts were adopted, and Messrs J. S. Wilson, E. ~\f. Alison, and Dr. Coates were elected directors. A vote of thanks was accorded to the directors, and also a special vote of thanks. to Mr A. B. Barter, late director, who is leaving the district.
