MR S. ADAMS' CONCERT.

The Choral Hall was crowded to the doors last evening,- when Mr S. Adams gave his annual pupils' concert. The concert proved entirely successful, and the hearty applause which every; item won from an appeciative audience was in each case thoroughly; deserved. Several of the young performers displayed undoubted musical talent, and all, both orchestra and •soloists, performed in a manner that reflected credit on both themselves and their painstaking instructor. The concert was in the nature of a farewell to Miss Edith Whitelaw, leader of Mr Adams' orchestra, who leaves for London on Tuesday next in order to continue her musical education at the Royal College of Music. • Miss Whitelaw commenced to study the violin under Mr Adams at eight years of age, and two years afterwards played at these concerts with marked, success. The following year she appeared as leader of the orchestra, and at the age of thirteen passed the Trinity College junior division examination in violin playing with honours, and the ensuing year the senior division, also with honours.. These promising- young players all acquitted themselves really well. The excellence of the orchestral music was another pleasing feature. Miss Whitelaw's solo, brilliantly played, was received with marked approval, and in response to an imperative recalj the young violinist added Piedne's graceful "Serenade.'
