RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE
COMMISSIONERS.
The' Commissioners ■will leave on the 28th. The Chief Justice stays here at their request. The Commissioners in their report will recommend the abolition of the kingship and office of President, and the appointment of a Governor, with a Legislative Council consisting of three nominees of the Powers, assisted by a.Native House. The Governor to have a veto over general and municipal laws. The nominees to be departmental heads; the consular, diplomatic and judicial functions to be abolished. The revenue to be raised by an increase of duties, and the poll-tax to be lessened. The. jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to be increased. The Municipality, under a council and mayor, to be extended. The post-office to be under the control of the Government.
. The British and Americans generally express satisfaction at the work done by the Commission. How the new government will answer remains to be seen. A report is current among the German residents to the effect that Dr. Solf will be the new head of the Native Government.
