(By Cable. —Press Association.) MATCH AGAINST OXFORD PAST AND PRESENT. COLLAPSE OF THE HOME TEAM. VICTORY FOR THE COLONIALS.
LONDON, June 21
The Australians in their match against Oxford Past and Present at Portsmouth scored 373 for eight wickets yesterday.
Kelly and La.ver made a good stand, | and the former was unlucky in not ! getting the eleven more runs required for a century. MeLeod batted moiv successfully than in any previous match this season. ( With 8 wickets down for 373 the Colonials declared their innings closed, leaving Oxford in a minority of \:>2 on the first innings. The 'Varsity team had their second I innings to-day. The weather was fine. but the wicket was a "difficult" one. The attendance was small. The Englishmen's second innings only realised 135, of which Pry mad; 54 and Pilkington 29. MeLeod captured five wickets and Layer four.
The Australians only require to make 14 runs in their second innings to win the game. ; Cunclift'e, one of the Oxford bow- ■ lers, bowled no less; than twelve noballs and two wides. LATER. The Australians won the mutch without the loss of a wicket, Jones and Howell knocking up the accessary runs. McLeod and Layer both bowled with 1 great success in Oxford's second innings, the former getting- 5 wickets for 29 and the latter 4 for 27. The colonials won the match by ten wickets and 2 runs.
