GENERAL BULLER.
General Sir Redvers Buller, who is
to assume supreme command of the troops in South Africa in the event of hostilities, has attached to his name • the distinguishing1 letters V.G., G.C.8., and K.C.M.G. He was born in 1839, and is therefore 60 years of age. He served in the 'campaigns in China in 1860, Ashanti 1873-
4, South Africa 1878-9, Egypt 1882-4, and Soudan 1884-5. He has received four-medals with seven clasps and five other decorations. AH his regimental service has been in the 60th King's Royal Rifles. He has held twelve staff appointments, and was QuartermasterGeneral of the Army 1887-90, and Ad-jutant-General of the Army IS9O-97. He was Under-Secretary for Ireland a short time in 18S7.
